This manual intended to be used as communication
channels between facilities for people with
disabilities in Asia and the Pacific. When we
started the Asian Pacific Decade of Persons with
Disabilities in 1993, we noticed that there were
not sufficient facilities in the region. This
manual shows outcomes of a decade long hard work
of the people in this region. We believe the
Asian Pacific Decade of Persons with
Disabilities has encouraged the people,
promoting efforts to produce facility services.
This manual was made by collaborative works of
rehabilitation professionals in this region. Ms.
Sheila Purves, Hong Kong Society for
Rehabilitation organized people with
disabilities to collect data. Dr. Hendarto
Hendarmin, University of Indonesia and Dr.
Handojo Tjandrakusma, CBR Development & Training
Centre provided us detailed data. Dr. Pattariya
Jarutat, Sirindhorn National Medical
Rehabilitation Center compiled data in Thailand.
Dr. Sik Hong Moon, Korea Welfare Promotion
Association provided us a directory in Korea,
and Dr. Dal Yob Lee, Taegu University translated
it into English. Mr. Mateo Lee, National Council
for the Welfare of Disabled Persons permitted us
to copy a directory in Philippines. We hope this
manual will be used by persons with disabilities
and rehabilitation professionals. We also hope
this seed project will expand in future.
